Corrosion and Deterioration of External Parts of Transformers and Reactors in Service

There are a number of processes which are continuously active which degrade the external parts of transformers and reactors in operation, especially corrosion of exposed metal parts. This chapter considers the basic chemistry of corrosion for different metals, different types of corrosive environment, design aspects of corrosion, and maintenance aspects of corrosion. This chapter also considers liquid leaks, including both design and maintenance aspects. This chapter further considers ageing of auxiliary wiring, terminal boxes, and control cabinets.
