The struggle for access to power and rights competes with the struggle for access to services and income opportunities. Most individuals, communities, and local grassroots organizations are not able to balance both these struggles and can prioritize only one of them. This chapter presents an approach for building communityCommunity resilienceResilience by NGOs/CSOs, which intervene with a rights-based approach and foster empowerment and local leadership. We argue in particular that resilienceResilience relies on access to resources including natural, social, economic, and political, and that a significant way to build resilienceResilience is to ensure rights to these essential resources. This chapter is based on insights gathered from qualitative researches conducted among three distinct grassroots organizations: an SHG group and an informal collective in Uttarakhand, West Bengal, and Maharashtra. The ethnographic method has been accepted as an appropriate approach in social design, as it enables to gather an in-depth contextual understanding of people’s everyday life in a comprehensive way via the use of participatory observation and interviews. The study depicts that CSOs play a significant role through collective action act for adaptive capacity against drought, managing impact of compound disasterDisaster such as COVID-19Covid-19 Impact and cloudburst by building trust in health system and collectivizing for continuing education, and empowering through rights-based dignified livelihood. The study concludes that collectivization is an innovative way to build resilienceResilience in the neoliberal world.
