Retinoblastoma: Counseling the Family

Be sensitive to the fears and anxieties of parents and families as you meet them. Limit initial discussion to key elements, holding final recommendations until examination under anesthesia (EUA). Explain what will drive the decision for enucleation (Yes/ No) and the route of chemotherapy (IVC or IAC). Given the complexity of care, introduce key team members integrating genetic counseling early on into the care plan. Offer an introduction to existing families or a support group.
