This concluding chapter attempts to situate Larkin’s works in relation to a ‘literate and conscious’ understanding of place. The feelings of belonging, unbelonging and transcendence of belonging which are so prominent in the works of Philip Larkin have not been given much critical attention so far. A detailed analysis of Larkin’s works using these parameters will provide a whole new dimension to the existing critical literature on Larkin. The chapter also tries to establish the fact that the personal and socio-cultural dilemmas related to a place left a lasting impression on Larkin’s idea of England. The book will also open the possibility of further research as the question of place is a significant discourse in the postmodern literary enquiries.
