Current Topics in Linguistics and Aphasia

  • Maria Garraffa,

摘要

This final chapter will incorporate insights about aphasiology not only from theoretical linguistics, but also from other aspects of the language sciences, such as bilingual aphasia, sociolinguistics, neurolinguistics and medical humanities with the intention of opening a richer dialogue between aphasiology and the language sciences. Some open questions will be presented, such as the specificity of the linguistic disorders for the aphasia syndromes compared to other language disorders in adulthood and the general issue about aphasia classifications in group studies. It will also address how linguistics can contribute to a more detailed classification of the language disorder in aphasia if combined with modern technologies applied to therapies such as brain stimulations. The chapter ends with some discussion topics on the effect of global demographic changes, such as the increase of multilingualism, that need to be considered in research and practice of acquired language disorders.
