This book pulls together the theoretical considerations, methodological reflections, and empirical results emanating from a three-year project, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research from July 2021 to June 2024. The project “Football as the basis for social cohesion in Europe” (FANZinE) examines how football fandom, as a leisure activity, can enhance identification with and social cohesion in Europe. While doing so, we seek to offer wide-ranging, theory-guided, empirical analysis that is operationalised and substantiated via a mixed-methods research design and complemented by policy recommendations.

摘要

This book pulls together the theoretical considerations, methodological reflections, and empirical results emanating from a three-year project, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research from July 2021 to June 2024. The project “Football as the basis for social cohesion in Europe” (FANZinE) examines how football fandom, as a leisure activity, can enhance identification with and social cohesion in Europe. While doing so, we seek to offer wide-ranging, theory-guided, empirical analysis that is operationalised and substantiated via a mixed-methods research design and complemented by policy recommendations.
