Citizenship in Transit: Patterns and Narratives of Naturalisation in Britain

  • Chris Moreh

摘要

This final substantive chapter returns to the analysis of British citizenship, this time by surveying the empirical data—both qualitative and quantitative—on naturalisation and legal integration in the UK. Its findings complement the previous chapters in providing further support to the theoretical observation that contemporary understandings of citizenship have undergone a ‘mobility turn’. It is argued that the essence of this shift is best described through the notion of ‘mobility citizenship’, as denoting not only a movement towards citizenship via mobility, but also one towards mobility via citizenship. This conception of citizenship raises further questions about the suitability of current theories and policies of integration.
