Patient Position and General Setting in Elbow Arthroplasty

In this chapter the different positions used for elbow replacement surgery are described: supine, lateral decubitus, and prone. The supine position is commonly preferred for its simplicity and flexibility, allowing for maximum elbow mobility and fewer anesthesiologic complications. The lateral decubitus position provides stability for complex fractures but requires careful setup to avoid complications like nerve injuries. The prone position, least used, offers stability but poses risks for respiratory and ocular complications.
