Preoperative Planning in Anatomic Shoulder Arthroplasty

Total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) is a surgical procedure used mainly to treat arthritis or severe fractures. The procedure involves replacing the damaged humeral head and, sometimes, the glenoid with prosthetic components. Proper patient positioning, typically in a beach chair position, and the use of precise surgical techniques are crucial to ensure optimal alignment and fixation of the implants. Advances in 3D templating and preoperative planning have increased the accuracy of implant positioning, potentially improving outcomes and reducing complications such as glenoid loosening or improper component sizing.
