Planning in High Tibial Osteotomy for Varus Knee

Osteoarthritis commonly affects the medial compartment of the knee, and high tibial osteotomies (HTO) aims to realign the knee to relieve symptoms and delay joint degeneration. Two main techniques are described: medial opening wedge HTO (OWHTO) and lateral closing wedge HTO (CWHTO). OWHTO is preferred for its accuracy but may result in mild limb lengthening, while CWHTO is quicker but may shorten the limb. Accurate preoperative planning, including assessing the correction angle using methods such as the Dugdale method, is essential for achieving the desired outcomes.
