Preoperative Planning in Robotic-Assisted Knee Arthroplasty

Robotic assistance in knee arthroplasty, available since the 1990s, enhances precision in executing preoperative plans, improving early functional outcomes and reducing postoperative pain. Despite higher costs and longer operative times, its use is growing. Preoperative planning for robotic-assisted procedures follows traditional guidelines but incorporates advanced imaging to refine component positioning. Image-based systems rely on preoperative 3D imaging for detailed alignment and sizing, while imageless systems depend on intraoperative data. Both approaches aim for precise alignment and ligamentous balance, adjusting the plan dynamically based on intraoperative findings. Robotic systems provide quantitative assessments to optimize knee stability and implant positioning, enhancing overall surgical accuracy and outcomes.
