Planning in Robotic-Assisted Total Hip Arthroplasty

摘要

Robotic-assisted total hip arthroplasty (THA) aims to improve precision in component placement in order to reduce complications such as dislocation and wear. This chapter describes the MAKO robot, a semi-active system approved in 2010, which is a key tool in this procedure, providing real-time feedback to the surgeon. Preoperative planning requires a CT scan to create a 3D model of the patient’s pelvis and femur, ensuring accurate sizing and positioning of implants. During surgery, the MAKO system uses predefined points on the bone to guide the robot, enhancing accuracy in acetabular and femoral preparation.
