Children and Young People’s Intersectional Social Identities and Lived Experiences of Inequalities

  • Patricio Cuevas-Parra

摘要

Chapter 5 focuses on children and young people’s intersecting social identities and their lived experiences of inequalities to critically reflect on how distinctive identities can exacerbate exclusion, marginalisation and inequity. Using a case study from Brazil, the chapter discusses that when these social identities are overlooked or dismissed, we risk increasing and perpetuating inequalities and the exclusion of children and young people from public decision-making. By using a process of social consciousness, the children and young people in the case study positioned themselves as a minority, disenfranchised and invisible group.
