Heritage Preservation for Local Knowledge and Innovation

This chapter delves into the changes in land use in the Algarve over the past 50 years, leveraging spatial analysis and archaeological databases to unveil historical land use patterns, particularly during the Roman era. By integrating data from Roman archaeological sites, the study employs advanced statistical spatial analysis to consider the integration of functional historical landscapes and their implications for contemporary land management, heritage preservation, as well as the importance of economic growth. This exploration is situated within the broader context of regional development and sustainable tourism, emphasizing the preservation of cultural heritage as a pivotal element for economic growth and smart governance.
