Diagnostic Armamentarium in Sexually Transmitted Diseases
摘要
Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are one of the significant health issues among sexually active men. Diagnosis of STDs are usually clinical, yet investigations play an important role in the confirmation, atypical presentations, adequate treatment and follow-up. Genital ulcer diseases can be venereal or non-venereal. Venereal ulcers such as syphilis, donovanosis, chancroid and herpes genitalis can be confirmed by simple bedside tests like gram stain. Laboratory tests like VDRL, TPHA, cell cultures lines, ELISA and Western blot. Are the other diagnostic armamentarium available. Earliest and specific detection of organisms can help in reducing the overall disease burden, and resistance due to inadequate and nonspecific treatment.
