The sexual act is clearly pleasurable and enjoyable. But, to keep it so forever, everyone should know that certain diseases can be transmitted through the sexual act, close intimacy, and through exchange of body fluids during sexual contact. For this, we have to understand what these STIs are, the causative organisms and how they get transmitted from one person to the other, either horizontally (between sex partners) or vertically (mother to child). We should know how to protect ourselves from this menace and how we can get treated and where. We can follow A, B, C, D methods for STIs and HIV. A—Abstinence (before marriage), B—Be faithful to partner (monogamous relationship), C—Condoms (protected sex), D—Drugs (post-exposure prophylaxis, pre-exposure prophylaxis, ART treatment—U=U undetectable = untransmittable, prevention of mother to child transmission). Many of the bacterial, fungal, parasitic and protozoal STIs are totally curable, whereas few of the viral STIs are well manageable even though a sterilizing cure is yet to be achieved. But even with the viral STIs also one can have a normal life expectancy, pleasurable family life, maintain love and intimacy, retain parenthood, and can win bread as anyone else without STIs. They must adhere to treatment and follow-up advice.
