We humans are a young species; some argue that we are still adapting to our planet (Thomas 2017). When we consider our fellow species, we can see that they are still evolving, but already know how to cover their needs by regenerating through constant change. Life cycles, rhythms, and the patterns within them represent a true language that we can read and respond to (Illetterati and Michelini 2013). Human communities have been creating disconnection by shaping infrastructure, services, and interactivities, often without thought for the web of life. A fundamental part of regenerative strategies is collaboration with these more-than-human worlds (O’Gorman and Gaynor 2020). Biomimicry, biofabrication, biophilia, conservation and restoration can be used as efforts and tools for regenerative design. Three case studies with multispecies perspectives will highlight and identify co-evolutionary principles and values. These case studies demonstrate our potential to implement regenerative approaches in design education.
