Imaging plays a vital role in the care of children with cancer diagnoses and is used to inform management throughout the patient journey: from initial detection of the tumor and generation of a differential diagnosis, to biopsy or resection planning, staging, evaluation of response to therapy, when assessing features of recurrence, for surveillance, and in evaluation of acute and chronic sequelae of treatment. This chapter focuses on the imaging characteristics of the more common solid non-neurological tumours of childhood. Discussion includes which of the multiple imaging modalities available is best utilised for particular tumors or anatomical locations, and reference is made to current imaging guidelines to help inform decision making. The potential limited access to certain imaging modalities is considered, as well as the importance of minimising exposure to radiation. The imaging characteristics of each tumor, both at diagnosis and following treatment, are described, with emphasis on findings that will inform staging and surgical planning.
