Resilience continues to rule the literature in several disciplines, ranging from different theoretical concepts and approaches. However, there is a lack of a holistic definition centred on the entangled social-ecological dimensions of the landscape. Consequently, this theoretical research aims to offer a qualitative definition of landscape resilienceLandscape resilience and its features, role, and the appropriate approaches to build it. Then, their definition will support establishing an international reflection on the topic in landscape research. To fill this research gap and overcome disciplinary boundaries, the article provides a qualitative definition of landscape resilience in the framework of landscape studies. Properties and features of the social and ecological sub-systems are introduced to understand interdisciplinaryInterdisciplinary convergences and interrelationships. The research identifies some key points useful to sustain the definition of landscape resilience. Among them, there is the capacity (from the ability to capability) to recombine elements, knowledge, and networks. Moreover, landscape resilience can be considered an integrated approach to comprehending the new normal conditions, building shared values, and guiding the birth–death-rebirth cycle of resilient systems. This theoretical research opens room for discussions on the topic. Planning and integrated management are the fields that are more influenceable by considering landscape resilience as an approach. In addition, informing and steering the autopoiesisAutopoiesis of landscape is a starting point for further advancements in the field.
