Exploring Bioactive Compounds: Biosynthesis, Extraction, Characterization, and Diverse Applications—An Overview
摘要
Bioactive compounds are crucial in various industries, including pharmaceuticals, agriculture, cosmetics, and personal care. They are synthesized through molecular mechanisms, enzymatic reactions, and regulatory pathways. Extraction techniques for separating bioactive compounds from natural sources include solvent extraction, Soxhlet extraction, ultrasound-assisted extraction, microwave-assisted extraction, and enzyme-assisted extraction. Characterization methods like mass spectroscopy, NMR, and FTIR are used for molecular identification and structural information. Chromatography techniques like column chromatography, HPLC, and GC are essential for separating and analyzing bioactive compounds. They are also used in drug development, treatments, cardiovascular health, antioxidants, neurological disorders, and immunomodulation. They promote overall wellness through vitamins, antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids, probiotics, herbal extracts, polyphenols, collagen, and adaptogens in nutraceuticals and dietary supplements. Agricultural applications include bio-stimulants, biofertilizers, plant growth promoters, biopesticides, and allelopathic agents. Bioactive compounds are also used in cosmetics and personal care products as antioxidants, moisturizers, anti-aging, skin-brightening, anti-inflammatory, UV filters, and hair care ingredients. This chapter emphasizes the versatility and importance of bioactive compounds in diverse industries and their potential to contribute to human health and agricultural sustainability.
