As an epilogue to the Springer book series, this chapter assesses the long-term impact of the Knowledge and Space symposium series, which spanned over two decades, in the context of an ongoing scholarly debate regarding the value of academic conferences. Originating in 2005 and concluding with its 20th volume in 2025, the series brought together scholars from diverse disciplines to explore the intersection of geography and knowledge. Through a tailored survey distributed to nearly 300 participants, we evaluate the series’ effectiveness in fostering interdisciplinary dialogue, advancing spatial concepts in the social sciences, and building an enduring network of scholarship. The findings underscore the benefits of the series’ unique design—small, diverse groups, closed sessions without an audience, and a mix of formal and informal interactions—highlighting how these elements contributed to meaningful knowledge exchange and professional development. The epilogue reflects on the series’ contributions to academic discourse and the implications for the broader debate on the utility and structure of academic conferencing.
