Although COVID-19 is no longer considered a global pandemic, it remains one of the worst episodes to date, significantly impacting consumers worldwide. This study explores the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on consumer purchasing decisions. The overall main purpose of this study is to investigate the perceptions and preferences of potential users regarding the usage of bio-related products during the COVID-19 lockdown. In particular, this paper explores the potential use of bio-related product designs, the purchasing decisions, and the opinions of consumers towards bio-related product designs. The products that could be categorised in this study include electronic/digital products, house or kitchen appliances, furniture, art and design decorative items, visual products, fashionable items, hobby-related products, and other products relevant to certain activities or needs. Based on an online survey with a maximum of 217 respondents, this study compares the findings across three distinct dimensions: (1) functionality and practicality; (2) aesthetics and semantics; and (3) emotionality and experience. Moreover, we discuss new findings regarding the impact of nature on humans, as well as the concept of nature connectedness indoors during the global COVID-19/lockdown with a potentially positive impact on any similar future situation.
