The Impact of Using Fiberglass-Reinforced Concrete (FRC) on Sustainable Design and Construction Future
摘要
This research investigates the convergence of civil engineering and architectural visions in utilizing fiberglass-reinforced concrete (FRC) and its transformative impact on design. Focusing on the benefits of FRC, the study explores its economic viability and architectural implications. This paper provides a comprehensive exploration of the benefits and implications of integrating fiberglass-reinforced concrete (FRC) into architectural and construction practices. Also, it effectively highlights the economic viability, structural advantages, and environmental sustainability of FRC, positioning it as a transformative material in the construction industry. As, FRC offers several advantageous properties, including enhanced tensile strength that minimizes cracking and collapse risk, increased shock and vibration resistance, and improved durability against environmental factors like moisture, salinity, and heat. Recent studies reveal the economic sustainable advantages of FRC, including reduced maintenance and repair costs, extended building lifespans, and enhanced safety and security. These benefits translate to increased return on investment through lower maintenance expenditures, extended revenue generation periods due to longer building lifespans, and risk reduction from improved safety and security. Beyond economics, FRC's superior flexibility compared to steel unlocks potential for intricate shapes and curves impossible with traditional concrete. This empowers architects to craft bold, complex forms, resulting in visually captivating and expressive buildings. This paper analyzes four iconic architecture design buildings that had been constructed and FRC is essential to facilitate these innovative forms. This newfound design freedom presents exciting possibilities for the architectural community. In conclusion, FRC fosters a path toward innovative and sustainable architectural designs, bridging the gap between civil engineering and architectural aspirations. This research delves into this promising material's potential to revolutionize construction practices and shape the future of architectural expression.
