The increase in the number of dementia patients has become a social problem, with 50 million people suffering from dementia as of 2018, and this number is expected to increase to 152 million by 2050. MCI is a preliminary stage of dementia, and it has been reported that some patients can recover to a normal cognitive state with appropriate treatment. Thus, early detection and treatment of MCI are important. This project developed the Virtual Kitchen Challenge (VKC) system to measure cognitive function. Micro-errors (ME), which are subtle action difficulties, were observed during VKC tasks, and previous studies have demonstrated that MEs tend to occur at action transitions, which is related to the closeness of the action. This study hypothesized that there may be a difference in the number and timing of MEs in MCI patients compared to healthy elderly (HE) individuals due to their cognitive decline. In this study, 13 HE and 12 MCI participants were asked to perform a VKC task to determine whether there was a difference in the number of MEs and the ME timing. The experimental results revealed that the MCI patients exhibited more MEs than the HE participants, especially between subtasks.
