The paper provides a review and systematization of the literature related to the chatbot user experience (CUX) by focusing on the chatbot’s design and evaluation domain. An overview of the state of the art for each topic is provided, along with recommendations that can improve the design and evaluation of CUX. A literature review was conducted to: a) identify the methods used to design the user experience (UX) of different types of chatbots, and b) identify the methods used to evaluate the UX of different types of chatbots. The narrative approach was used to analyze the results of the selected studies. Content analysis was used to qualitatively evaluate the methods used to design and evaluate CUX. The synthesis was made to identify the key design requirements of the chatbot in terms of locus of control and duration of interaction. The paper provides: a) qualitative evaluation of the methods used to design the UX of different types of chatbots and categorization of steps of the design process in terms of chatbot functionality and purpose, b) qualitative evaluation and systematization of the methods used to evaluate the UX of different types of chatbots, and c) recommendations for the design and evaluation of chatbots concerning different types of chatbots and different categories of methods.

摘要
