Corpus Technologies for the Creation of Scenarios in Foreign Language Education
摘要
The paper considers the results of a preliminary study conducted among students enrolled in various technical educational programs. The study was designed to achieve one main goal: to develop and justify the effectiveness of a methodology for developing foreign language subject competence of future managers in the context of using different scenarios created with the help of modern corpus technologies – a dataset based on a collection of texts in a specific language equipped with a search tool (e.g. Sketch Engine corpus manager). In order to achieve this goal, the authors created four subgoals: 1) to define foreign language subject competence (FLSC); 2) to consider the structure of the FLSC, the formation of which derives from different scenarios with corpus technologies; 3) to develop criteria for assessing the competence formation; 4) to analyze the results of a pedagogical experiment. The data were obtained from testing the students’ knowledge and skills. In general, the study reveals high enough opportunities of corpus technologies. The new concept of integrated foreign language and professional subject competence based on different scenarios with corpus technologies opens additional opportunities in practical and theoretical areas of modern education, has a high scientific significance, since it allows conceptually and practically solving the issue of developing unified approaches to the implementation of foreign language corpuses, which contain a big volume of professional language materials for study.
