Nomadism and Reality - Two Scenarios for Their Interrelation and Development

The article is devoted to two problems associated with the postmodern concept of nomadism. Firstly, nomadism, interpreted as a social strategy for abandoning all totalities and all fixations, can easily turn into totality and fixation itself. Secondly, the purpose of this strategy is seen as protecting societies from all forms of totalitarianism and chauvinism. It will be shown, however, that this strategy can develop tendencies which turn it into its opposite. Certain nominalistic construals of relativism open the door for nomadism to become self-contradictory or dogmatic, even totalitarian. The aim of this paper is to identify the principles under which the concept of nomadism would fulfill its purpose without contradiction. To this end, two exhaustive scenarios in developing this concept are presented: sophistic and dialectical. Of them, the 1st one creates the contradiction, and the 2nd one removes it. The article also addresses the problem of nominalism and the objective reality of common ideas. It is proved that the dominance of extreme nominalism in culture leads to the development of the latter according to the 1st sophistic scenario.
