Early Twentieth-Century Trademarks and Brands

As trademark use expanded, a formal literature developed examining the concept then called trademark advertising. The idea of trademark advertising was that by advertising brand names to consumers, these consumers would then demand those brands from their retailers. This would reduce the power of retailers and wholesalers to select which products to stock. This also led to the development of the concept of a brand and consumer research examining brands.
