From the Decline of Guilds Through the Eighteenth Century

  • Ross D. Petty

摘要

As the use of guild marks declined, the use of masters’ marks became more popular and were supported by commercial tribunals. Furthermore, merchants often sought some sort of royal charter or endorsement to help distinguish their goods from others. However law courts were reluctant in supporting such commercial marks and in the case of proprietary medicines, often used poor quality as justification.
