Developing ideas from the previous chapter, this section delivers a reappraisal of an established mainstream writer, viewing their work through the prism of their sports writing and the way in which sport inhabits both their fiction and creative non-fiction. The UK novelist and critic Martin Amis died in May 2023, and this chapter therefore offers an early posthumous academic analysis of his output, focusing on the extent to which sport, in particular tennis and football, informs Amisian style and content.
