Introduction: Social Theory, Linguistics and Ethics for Change
摘要
This introductory chapter positions the volume within discussions around the role of language and language educators in social justice and social transformation endeavours. The chapter explains the usefulness of a clear language ontology such as social semiotics, a social theory such as Bourdieu’s Field Theory and Ethics in these discussions. The chapter argues this knowledge base is necessary for educators to critically reflect on their practice and to impact their students and the broader academic field. It concludes with a preview of the chapters in the volume.
