The mesolimbic pathway connects the ventral tegmental area with the nucleus accumbens. The inferior end of the mesolimbic tract (MLT) is in the ventral tegmental area, between the cerebral peduncles. MLT runs superiorly on the medial aspect of the peduncle, moving anteriorly through the hypothalamus, lateral to the third ventricle. MLT terminates in the nucleus accumbens, close to the putamen and caudate.
