The ventromedial subthalamic projections (VMSTN) connect the subthalamic nucleus to the medial orbitofrontal cortex. From the subthalamic nucleus, VMSTN projections run lateral to the mammillothalamic tract, coalescing in the internal capsule, where they occupy a medial position. The VMSTN continue to the frontal pole, running superiorly to the accumbofrontal tract.
