The ansa peduncularis (AP) connects the temporal pole and amygdala with the septal region, hypothalamus (amygdala-hypothalamic), and anterior and medial thalamus (extracapsular thalamic radiation). The temporal termination is in the anterior part of the superior temporal gyrus, close to the uncinate fasciculus and the inferior longitudinal fasciculus. AP runs posteriorly, then curves superiorly over the amygdala also collecting fibers from this nuclear complex, close to the temporopulvinar tract, and passes medially together with the anterior commissure, terminating, anteriorly, in the septal region and the hypothalamus, and with posterior projections to the anterior and medial thalamus.
