The uncinate fasciculus (UF) connects the orbitofrontal and prefrontal cortex with the temporal pole. UF extends into medial and lateral orbitofrontal and lateral middle frontal gyri and then projects posteriorly, inferior to the frontal horn and medial to the inferior insula, coursing laterally within the external/extreme capsule to be inferolateral to the body of the caudate and then inferolateral to the putamen, and the claustrum. The UF funnels inferiorly, into the temporal stem, inferior to the insula, and then passes lateral to the amygdala, into the anterior superior temporal gyrus. The temporal termination of the UF is in the superior temporal gyrus in the temporal pole.
