The inferior fronto-occipital fasciculus (IFOF) is a multilayered bundle connecting the frontal lobe with the parietal, posterior temporal, and occipital lobes. Anteriorly, it connects the orbitofrontal cortex, the pars orbitalis, and triangularis and the posterior middle frontal gyrus to the precuneus and angular gyrus in the parietal lobe; posterior middle temporal gyrus, inferior temporal gyrus, and fusiform gyrus in the temporal lobe; and occipital, lingual gyri, and cuneus. The IFOF runs within and above the ventral claustrum at the intersection of the extreme and external capsule, deep to the insula, superior to the uncinate fasciculus, and then passes through the temporal stem to the temporal lobe to join the sagittal stratum, where it runs lateral to the optic radiation.
