Meningioma Pathology and Radiotherapy at Initial Diagnosis

Meningiomas are the most common primary tumors of the central nervous system. Currently, the mainstay of therapy for meningiomas is surgery. In recent years, radiotherapy has also become established as a therapy for the local control of meningiomas, especially with the advent of radiosurgery. In this chapter, we will illustrate not only the indications for radiotherapy treatment of meningiomas, but also how recent discoveries about the biomolecular profile of these tumors may influence the decision to undertake radiation therapy.
