Tourism is the main source of income for many countries around the world. Especially tourism is a very important issue for the Greek economy. In recent years, many alternative forms of tourism have been developed in Greece, including wine tourism and gastronomic tourism. In Greece, gastronomy is a cultural heritage that attracts a lot of tourists. The purpose of this paper is the study of gastronomic tourism. Through a critical review of the literature, those parameters that contribute to the development of gastronomic tourism were discovered. More specifically, it relates to what gastronomic tourism is, what importance it has for Greece and what prospects and problems it has. Also, a quantitative survey was carried out in order to investigate opinions on gastronomic tourism and its prospects in Greece. The research was carried out in the spring of 2023, specifically from March to May 2023. A total of 150 answered questionnaires were collected. The research found that there are areas of the country that attract visitors because of their gastronomy and that despite the upgrading of Greek cuisine and the efforts to promote it, there is still a lot of scope for the development of gastronomic tourism.
