Roof Fall Hazard and Its Mechanism: An Overview
摘要
One of the main hazards in the underground mining sector is roof falls, which might have severe effects on miners working in belowground in the form of injuries, disabilities, or fatalities and also results in supplementary damages like production delay, equipment damages, interruptions in mining operations, and breakdown events. Due to the associated diversity of geological situations and irregularity in mining conditions, roof falls are largely unpredictable. Generally, roof falls are mainly influenced by a few factors like rock geology, the concentration of in-situ stresses, the method of extraction, and the support system adopted. Continuous roof evaluation using the latest advanced automated technology is required to lower the risk of roof fall hazards. In this paper, a detailed review of the roof fall mechanism and current monitoring techniques are presented. Furthermore, recent developments in the field of roof fall hazards are described to minimize the risk related to roof fall hazards and to improve the overall safety of the mine.
