Indian Agent Thomas Twiss, 1855–1871

  • Catherine Nealy Judd

摘要

Upper Platte Indian Agent Thomas Twiss played a key diplomatic role in the aftermath of the Platte Road reprisals. Cheyenne Peace Chiefs paid several visits to Twiss at his Dripps’ Trading Post locale, seeking to explain and negotiate in the wake of the August and September counterattacks. During these perilous weeks, Twiss ran desperate interference between his supervisors in the Department of the Interior and the now mortally threatened Northern Cheyenne who faced brutal military reprisals in the wake of their Platte Road raids.
