Thermal Characterization of Novel Multi-Layer Panel for Building Thermal Insulation

摘要

This paper explores the thermal properties of multi-layer panels crafted from sustainable and local materials, with a focus on agglomerated cork cores and bio-composite external layers. It delves into both symmetric and asymmetric designs, with varying cork thickness. The study assesses the panels by evaluating density, thermal conductivity, specific heat through the use of an HFM apparatus, and calculates thermal diffusivity and effusivity from these measurements. Findings reveal the panels are lightweight with superior thermal insulation capabilities, highlighting thermal conductivity rates between 0.071 and 0.102 W/mK. The research also compares measured values of thermal conductivity to theoretical predictions, highlighting the accuracy of the multi-layer thermal analysis method and the strong cohesion among the panel layers. The newly developed panels offer thermal efficiency and contribute to reduced energy consumption in buildings. Suitable for use as partitions, interior cladding, and false ceilings, these panels can also be painted or covered with adhesive paper to satisfy aesthetic demands.
