The Flexural Performance of Geopolymer Reinforced Concrete Beam: A Review

Geopolymer concrete (GC) is an environmentally beneficial choice that may be used in place of conventional concrete (CC). When compared to GC, the manufacturing process for Portland cement results in the production of harmful elements. The bulk of the research that were encountered were focused on examining the behavior of GC with regard to its mechanical characteristics and durability. On the other hand, the flexure behavior of GC reinforced beams has not been well explored in the published literature. The flexure behavior of GC beams is the subject of this review, which aims to improve current knowledge of the subject. After conducting a comprehensive research on the flexure behavior of GC, it was discovered that there are a number of gaps in the existing literature. Beams made of geopolymer concrete were shown to have a greater flexural capacity, despite the fact that several aspects have not yet been thoroughly examined. In addition, geopolymer beams exhibited greater deformations by virtue of their lower elastic modulus in comparison to that of conventional concrete. Beams made of geopolymer concrete exhibited satisfactory behavior when compared to traditional concrete components, which suggests that this material has potential applications in the construction industry.
