摘要

This study investigates the possible application of ultrasonic guided waves in the assessment of mechanical characteristics of human bones, with the objective of establishing a non-invasive and economically viable approach for the detection of disorders such as osteoporosis. This study aims to examine the influence of variations in cortical bone thickness on the properties of guided waves using numerical simulation and analytic techniques. This work centres on the analysis of guided wave propagation in tubular waveguides that emulate the skeletal system. The investigation employs homogeneous single-layer structures consisting of bone-like tubes devoid of marrow and tissue. The research findings indicate that geometric parameters have a major impact on the velocity of guided waves in the bone system. The study further examines the fundamental assumptions inherent in the models employed and finds appropriate guided wave modes for the practical evaluation of bone health.
