Inculcation of Circular Economy to Achieve Zero-Waste Sustainability in the Apparel Industry
摘要
The textile industry, the second most polluting sector in the world after the oil industry, generates around 1.2 billion tons of greenhouse gas emissions. In many aspects, including clothing, textiles are vital to human existence. It serves as a vehicle for expressing identity, wealth, power, and other abstract concepts and upholding the fundamental human desire to defend themselves from the outside world to preserve the necessary conditions for survival. Moreover, apparel has been a significant item traded worldwide over the years. However, this industry results in a detrimental effect on not only the environment but also the millions of individuals who work in this business. A large amount of waste is produced throughout the clothing manufacturing process. The resulting solid waste is dumped in landfills, degrading and releasing methane gas, contributing enormously to global warming. The worldwide clothing volume has increased by 400% in the last 20 years. The amount of energy necessary for manufacturing the products and the methods used to handle the materials during usage are all influenced by rising consumption, and these factors all appear to be harmful to the environment. The design components are fitted together in zero-waste design, so no fabric is wasted during cutting. An industrial economy known as the ‘circular economy’ aims to improve sustainability by using regenerative materials and designs. Recovering value from physical goods through a more constrained closed cycle of reuse and restoration is the fundamental idea behind the circular economy. This approach can improve recycling and energy recovery while improving the environment and the economy. Within the circular economy, waste could be minimised through product, manufacturing processes, and supply chain redesigns that maintain a continuous flow of resources in a closed cycle. The issue of decreasing resources is addressed by integrating a circular economy, cutting waste, and improving the environment, creating new chances for company growth and more competitive economies.
