Anesthesia for Robotic Liver Surgery

While robotic liver surgery and laparoscopic liver surgery differ substantially from a surgical point of view, both techniques are very similar in terms of anesthesia management. This chapter discusses key elements in perioperative anesthetic management of robotic liver surgery. Appropriate patient preparation, standardization of methods to avoid blood loss and transfusion, applying evidence-based interventions to prevent perioperative complications, and using the newest insights in analgesic techniques and enhanced recovery may help make robotic liver surgery a new standard. We also address some current discussion points about anesthesia in minimally invasive liver surgery.
