Development of a Bio-inspired Computational Framework for the Integration of Attentional Networks: Alerting, Orientation and Executive Control

A common approach to most problems is to divide and conquer. Attention is no exception. Specifically, one of the main approaches is to split it into three networks. However, it is currently not easy to find a model of attention that considers these three networks; this is a problem because not only the contribution of these circuits to the computation of behavior is lost, but also the contribution of behavior emerging from the interaction of these networks. In this paper, we propose a framework capable of progressively integrating the development of these three sub-networks. The framework can validate the connection between the different brain areas included in each of the subnetworks, the content of the communication between these involved areas, and the representation of the brain areas at different levels of representation. The validation of our proposal uses the ANT case study, which evaluates the three attentional networks working concurrently. The results obtained from our proposal are compared with the neuroscientific evidence.
