Cryptocurrency Monitoring Tools in Financial Investigations

The paper examines cryptocurrency monitoring tools in financial investigations, with a particular emphasis on evolving risks and trends related to improper use of cryptocurrencies for illegal activities including money laundering and terrorism financing. The study explores national and international regulatory environments that oversee cryptocurrencies and virtual asset service providers. A special emphasis is put on the tool “Transparent blockchain” for tracking and analyzing bitcoin transactions created by the Federal Service for Financial Monitoring of the Russian Federation. The research offers important new perspectives on using modern technologies to improve financial supervision. The results could be valuable for financial investigators, regulatory authorities, and policymakers seeking insights into combating illicit financial activities facilitated by cryptocurrencies.
