A Black Theology of the American Empire

This chapter makes a comprehensive and holistic constructive statement and declaration outlining the principles of a contemporary black liberation theology of the American Empire aimed at the destruction of racism and white supremacy. It seeks to blacken the theology of the American Empire while critiquing American power and US foreign policy through the lens of African American experience and black religious, spiritual, and theological thought. The chapter challenges the self-identity of the United States as a Christian empire and resists the Western impulses to Christianize the world and to re-institute Christendom. It ultimately uplifts the American Creed as the universal Western standard for human rights at home and abroad condemning racism and white supremacy in the American experiment and articulating a new national morality, ethics, and virtue for US self-identity and self-understanding based on contemporary black theology.
