Subverting Neutrality in Restorative Justice Education
摘要
This chapter focuses on the transformative potential of subversion within Restorative Justice Education (RJE) to resist and dismantle systemic whiteness embedded in education practices, including approaches to discipline. By advocating for RJE as a comprehensive toolkit encompassing strategies for relationship building, peacebuilding, and the cultivation of critical consciousness, this chapter positions subversion as essential to preserving the integrity and efficacy of RJE. Subversion ensures that RJE remains a mechanism to confront and dismantle hegemonic narratives and practices that privilege whiteness. Without intentional, subversive actions, RJE’s transformative nature can potentially reinforce the school status quo rather than facilitate meaningful change. Through an intentional analysis, educators, policymakers, and stakeholders are invited to embrace subversion to safeguard RJE’s role as an agent of transformation and support RJE as a catalyst for cultivating equitable educational environments that prioritize an anti-discriminatory framework for teaching and learning.
