Why Anti-discriminatory Education Cannot Be Optional
摘要
The urgency for Anti-Discriminatory Education (ADE) has grown amid heightened global awareness of systemic inequities, fueled by events such as the COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing racial injustices. This international handbook explores ADE as a transformative approach to counter discrimination based on race, gender, socioeconomic status, and more. Organized into four sections—early childhood education, elementary and middle school years, secondary education, and higher education—it examines theoretical and practical strategies to promote equity and inclusion across diverse cultural and political contexts. Highlighting foundational thinkers like Paulo Freire, bell hooks, and Audre Lorde, alongside contemporary voices, the handbook delves into critical concepts such as intersectionality, culturally sustaining pedagogies, and anti-racist practices. Addressing critiques of ADE and emphasizing collaborative leadership, it outlines actionable strategies for educators, policymakers, and various other stakeholders to create inclusive learning environments that benefit all. This comprehensive volume serves as both a resource and a call to action for advancing equity with intentionality and fostering thriving communities globally.
